i feel like this color looks too similar to charmander's regular color and makes him less special. but overall not ugly

Looks samey. Not nearly as meh as Charmander's but honestly deserves the same rating.
Honestly I'd just reverse the shiney and standard at this point, at least then Charmeleon would like a better shiny.
